Moodboard vs Brand Board: Which One Does Your Fashion Line Need?
Share
If you're new to building a brand, you may have heard both terms: "moodboard" and "brand board." They sound similar, but they serve very different purposes.
Here’s how to tell them apart, and why you likely need both.
What is a moodboard?
A moodboard defines the direction of a specific collection. It includes things like silhouette ideas, colours, fabrics, and styling cues. It’s emotional, visual, and temporary -it changes with each range.
What is a brand board?
A brand board is more permanent. It shows your logo, fonts, brand colours, and visual identity. It stays consistent across all your packaging, website, and communications.
When do you use each?
-
Use your moodboard when you’re designing a new collection.
-
Use your brand board when you're creating content, marketing, or packaging.
Do I need both?
Yes—but start with your moodboard. If you're launching your first range, your collection vibe comes first.
